that feeling of embarrassment remains
like a tattoo on my skin.
But words had already slipped my eager mouth
and are now hovering in the air.
I said a prayer for them
to be picked down by a savior, safely
onto the ground
and I knew that it would leave, a sour feeling
in my belly.
Grow up!

 

How she did die
I overheard. My parents conversation
gave me the facts kept from younger ears
and how it was burning me from the inside out.
Like a secret waiting to be told.
It grew much bigger than me
so I cleared my throat, I raised my voice, to speak
like the kid that I was
and immediately I knew Iʼd never been worthy.
